Who is Christ?
When we realize that we are all sinners, and that sin has terrible, eternal consequences, then we will realize that somehow we need victory over our sin. God has that covered! Here is what First Corinthians 15:55-57 tells us: “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (56) The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. (57) But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Victory over sin comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ! Jesus is the only begotton Son of God. He was born of the virgin Mary, and since He is 100% God, He was not born with the sin nature that Adam’s descendants received. He was also 100% man, so He could do what no one else could do: as man, He could die in our place; and as God, He could conquer death once and for all!
That is why John 20:31 tells us, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”
What did Christ Do at Calvary?
Christ gave His life for us and died in our place on the Cross of Calvary. He was buried in a borrowed tomb. Three days later, in victory, He rose again, proving that the curse of sin and death had been satisfied!
First Peter 2:24 says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
What Does the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Christ Mean for My Sin?
Christ’s death, burial and resurrection mean everything for all of us sinners! Because of it, we can be saved! Jesus died in our place, and conquered death in the process!
I Corinthians 15:1-4 says, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; (2) By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. (3) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
